Heute startet die neue Create a Smile Challenge - mit diesem Moodboard als Inspiration:

Today the new Create a Smile challenge went live - and we have this moodboard for your inspiration:
Ich liebe dieses Moodboard - die zarten Farben, die tollen Sukkulenten, dazu der abgesplitterte Look der Tür. Aber basteltechnisch hat es mich vor eine Herausforderung gestellt. Irgendwie wollte mir einfach nicht einfallen, wie ich das auf eine Karte bringen sollte. Und dann kam mir die passende Idee:
I love this moodboard - the soft colors, the great succulents, the weathered look of the door. But craftwise it was a real challenge to me, somehow I just wasn't able to turn it into a card. And then I had the right idea:
Ich war ja schon versucht, den wunderschönen Schindel-Hintergrund mit vielen kleinen Cardstock-Quadraten in verschiedenen Farben nachzubauen. Habe mich aber dann doch dagegen entschieden. Stattdessen habe ich versucht, zumindest die Farben auf meinen Hintergrund zu übertragen. Ich weiß ja nicht, wie viele von Euch stricken, aber meine Mom tut es, seit ich denken kann. Und daher kenne ich diese Farbverlauf-Wolle, bei der man auch nie sagen kann, welche Farbe am Ende wo am Projekt sein wird. Und diese Wolle kam mir in den Sinn.
Ich habe für den Hintergrund ein Stück weißen Cardstock erst mit einem zarten Farbverlauf mit Distress Oxide Pumice Stone, Victorian Velvet, Milled Lavender, Uncharted Mariner und Salvaged Patina gewischt. Dann habe ich den Knitted Stencil von Create a Smile aufgelegt und genau denselben Farbverlauf nur viel kräftiger auf den zarten Hintergrund aufgetragen. Am Ende hatte ich ein schönes Strickmuster als Hintergrund.
Den habe ich dann schwarz gemattet und auf einen weißen Kartenrohling geklebt.
I was really tempte to cut a bunch of little squares from different colors of cardstock and re-create that beautiful shingle look from the top right picture, but then went against it. Instead I tried to bring at least the colors onto my card. I don't know, how many of you do knitting, my mom does it and always had. And so I know this wool where one ball has different colors that interchange. When using it, you never know which color will end up where on your project. And this is what came to my mind.
For the background I've blended Distress Oxide Pumice Stone, Victorian Velvet, Mille Lavender, Uncharted Mariner and Salvaged Patina lightly onto a piece of white cardstock. Then I put the Knitted stencil by Create a Smile on top and brushed the exact same colors through the opening in the stencil, just going a lot more intense with the colors. In the end I had that beautiful knitted pattern on my piece of cardstock.
I've matted it black and glued it onto a white note card.
Nun, es sieht so aus, als würde Mama Pinguin genau so gerne stricken, wie meine Mutter. Ein wenig zum Leidwesen des kleinen Pinguins, der sicher Angst hat, dass sie nun auch noch an Socken für ihn arbeitet, da er ja bereits einen Pulli, einen Schal und eine Mütze hat.
Der Pinguin mit Pulli und Mütze ist aus dem Set Kuschelige Feiertage. Ich habe ihm zudem den Schal des Fuchses aus dem Set Winterkind angezogen.
Die strickende Pinguin-Mama ist aus dem Set Kaum zu Sehen und ich habe sie mit Strickzeug und dem Wollknäuel aus dem Set Knit Kit ausgestattet.
Coloriert habe ich mit Copics - beim Colorieren der Wolle und aller aus ihr gestrickter Teile habe ich versucht, genau diesen unvorhersagbaren Farbverlauf darzustellen und dabei Farben, die denen des Hintergrundes sehr ähnlich waren, verwendet. Zum Glück hat die Pinguin-Mama in den bereits fertigen Strickwerken ein wenig neutrales Weiß mit verarbeitet....
Da ich den Hintergrund zumindest hinter den Motiven ein wenig abschwächen wollte, habe ich eines der Stitched Rectangle Frames aus schwarzem Cardstock ausgestanzt und von hinten ein Stück Vellum dagegen geklebt. Darauf habe ich dann die Motive mit 3D Tape aufgeklebt. Beim Rahmen habe ich nur hinter dem Rahmen Kleber aufgetragen, so ist er gut versteckt und von vorne nicht zu sehen.
Den Text meiner Karte aus dem Set Stempelfreunde habe ich weiß auf schwarzen Cardstock embosst, ausgeschnitten und mit einem weißen Gelstift kleine Nähte rundherum aufgemalt. Dann habe ich es unter den kleinen Pinguin geschoben und links über den Rahmen hinaus ragen lassen. So sieht es aus wie ein Wäschelabel.
Und irgendwie schaute der kleine Pinguin ein wenig leidend - ich konnte nicht anders, als ihm eine Gedankenblase mit den Worten "cool bleiben" zu verpassen. Der Text ist auch noch doppeldeutig - entweder, weil seine Mutter stricktechnisch so eskaliert oder aber, weil dem Armen langsam so richtig warm wird. Die Gedankenblase ist aus dem Stanzenset Bookmark, der Text kommt mit Mama Pinguin im Set Kaum zu Sehen.
Als Deko habe ich dann noch ein paar zart-rosafarbene Herzen aufgeklebt.
Well, it looks like mama penguin loves knittin as much as my mom does. I kind of feel sorry for the little penguin, for sure he's afraid that she's working on socks since he already got a pullover, a scarf and a hat.
The penguin with the pullover and hat is from the set Kuschelige Feiertage. I also gave him the scarf from the fox from the Winterkind stamp set.
The knitting mama penguin is from the set Kaum zu Sehen and I gave her the wool and knitting equipment from the Knit Kit set.
I colored the images with Copics - and when coloring the wool and all the pieces knitted from it I tried to do exactly those changes of color, using colors that were pretty similar to the colors I had used on the background. Luckily mama penguin added some neutral white to the already finished pieces.
Since I wanted to tone down the background behind the images a bit, I've die cut one of the Stitched Rectangle Frames from black cardstock and glued a piece of vellum to its back. ThenI used foam tape to attach the images onto it. To glue the frame onto my background I put the glue only onto the back of the frame so it's hidden nicely and invisible from the top.
The text on my card is from the Set Stempelfreund and means "handmade with love". I've white heat embossed it onto black cardstock, cut it out and used a white gel pen to add some small stitches on the edges. I've tucked its one end under the penguin and let the other end hang over the edge of the die cut frame. Now it looks like a little label.
And that little penguin really looks a bit unhappy - I just couldn't resist to add a thought bubble with a stamped on "stay cool". And I love the double meaning of this - either the penguin is trying to stay calm or he's really beginning to sweat. I used a die from the Bookmark die set for the thought bubble, the text comes with mama penguin in the Kaum zu Sehen stamp set.
To decorate my card I added a few soft pink clay hearts.
