Heute bin ich wieder an der Reihe, auf dem Stamping-Fairies Blog zu posten. Und diesmal gibt es eine besondere Karte von mir. Da ich - inspiriert durch ein altes Spiel das wir früher gerne in der Schule gespielt haben und das auch meine Mädels heute immer wieder mal spielen - auf die Idee gekommen bin, nenne ich sie mal Expanding Card, denn irgendeinen Namen muss das Kind ja bekommen und ich kenne diese Kartenart sonst nicht.

It's my turn again to post over at the Stamping-Fairies Blog today. And this time I have a special card to share. Since I got the idea from a game we loved to play during school back then and that my girls still like to do every now and then and I just feel like I have to give this type of card a name I am calling it an Expanding Card. Please feel free to contact me if it has a different name and I just missed this type of card so far.
Beim Werkeln dieser Karte bin ich für mich total unüblich vorgegangen: ich hatte erst das Design der Karte im Sinn und habe dann geschaut, welcher Stempel sich dafür eignen würde. Und so habe ich zu den Panda Pals von MFT gegriffen.
Das Spiel, von dem ich rede, geht so: der erste Spieler malt den Kopf eines Tieres oder einer Person - oder schreibt den ersten Teil eines Satzes - oben auf ein Stück Papier. Dann wird das Papier umgeknickt, so dass nur noch der Halsansatz zu sehen ist, und der nächste Spieler malt den Oberkörper, bevor ich das Papier wieder knickt und weiterreicht. So entsteht zum Schluss eine lustige Figur, oder aber ein total absurder Satz. Was haben wir das früher während des Unterrichts heimlich gespielt...! Nun ist es bei mir nicht so, dass ich keine Ahnung hatte, was ich das zusammenstemple, aber das Prinzip vom Falten habe ich übernommen. Und so wird aus einer anscheinend normal großen Karte dann eine viel längere Karte mit großem Motiv. Und das sieht in meinem Fall so aus:
When making this card I worked completly different than I usually do: I first had the design of the card in mind, then went to see what images fit. And so picked the Panda Pals stamp set by MFT.
The game I was talking about goes like this: player 1 draws the head of an animal or person on the top of a sheet of paper - later we skipped to starting a sentence -, then folds the paper so only the end of the neck is visible and hands the folded paper over to the next player. He/she draws the upper body, folds the paper and hands it forward. This goes until the drawing is finished - and the image - or even sentence - is always a fun surprise. Oh boy, we secretly played that so much during school back then! Well, in case of this card of course I knew what I was stamping. But I took over the idea of unfolding a card to turn a regular sized card in a much longer one with way larger image. And this is what it looks opened:
Ich bin wirklich zufrieden damit, wie die Karte geworden ist - und wie aus einem grüßenden Panda auf einmal ganz viele werden.
Die Karte ist ganz einfach gemacht. Um sie matten zu können, habe ich einen Streifen von 9,5 cm Breite und in der Länge eines DinA4-Papieres zugeschnitten und an der langen Seite bei 13,8 cm gefalzt. Den übriggebliebenen Teil habe ich dann nochmal bei 8 cm gefalzt. Am ersten Falz wird die Karte zusammengefaltet, der letzte Teil dann wieder nach unten - schon ist die Kartenart fertig! Damit sie geschlossen bleibt, habe ich auf der Rückseite des untersten Teiles sowie auf der schwarzen Mattung je einen kleinen Magneten angebracht.
I really like how this one turned out and how there are so many more pandas showing up when the card is opened.
Making this card is really easy. I used Zentimeters instead of Inches here, but when I think of a US note card size - and imagining that I'd want a matting to be 1/8 Inch smaller - I'd pick a piece of paper of 4" x 5 1/4", and score the longer side at 2 5/8". Then I'd score the bottom part again in the middle, that'd be at 1 5/16". Fold the card in half at the first score line and then the bottom part down again at the second. And the card is done. To keep it closed I glued a small magnet to the back of the lower area and also the matting.
Und nun aber mal zu meiner Karte! Ich habe hier erst die obere Hälfte des Baumes aus dem Panda Pals Stempelset bis knapp unter die beiden seitlichen Äste gestempelt, dann passend dazu den unteren Teil des Baums auf den untersten Teil und zwar soweit, dass die seitlichen Äste wieder mit abgestempelt werden. Dann habe ich die beiden Teile durch zwei lange Linien mit dem Lineal verbunden - erstmal nur mit Bleistift. Und dann wurde ganz viel gemattet. Ich habe über den gezeichneten Streifen, der die Breite meines Baumstammes markiert, einen Streifen Maskiertape geklebt und darüber dann die anderen drei Pandas sowie noch zweimal die seitlichen Äste aufgestempelt.
Um den Baum herum habe ich ein paar Wolken verteilt und dabei immer darauf geachtet, dass keines der Motive bei geschlossener Karte nur ein wenig oder halb zu sehen ist.
Den kompletten Baum, die Wolken - die ohne Sonne sind aus dem Stempelset Fox and Friends - und alle Pandas habe ich dann ebenfalls mit Masking Tape abgedeckt und für den Hintergrund den kompletten Cardstock mit Distress Oxide Salvaged Patina gewischt. Darüber habe ich dann kleine Punkte mit hell- und dunkeltürkisfarbener Metallic Watercolor aufgespritzt.
But now let's talk about the images I used for this card. I started with the tree and first stamped the top of it on the uppest part of the card, masking everything underneath the two side branches. Then I moved my cardstock up in my Misti and stamped the bottom part with the panda on the lowerst area of the card, again also stamping the two side branches and cover everything above it. Then I used a ruler and a pencil and drew to lines to connect the two parts of the tree. I covered the area between the two lines with masking tape, then stamped the other three pandas and two more times the side branches of the tree.
Around the tree I stamped a few clouds, always making sure none of the images would be half visible when the card is closed.
Then I masked the complete tree, the clouds - these are from the Fox and Friends stamp set - and all the pandas with masking tape and inked up the complete cardstock with Distress Oxide Salvaged Patina. I also flicked some light and dark turquoise metallic watercolor over the blue ink.
Anschließend habe ich alle Motive mit Copics coloriert. Der Baum war eine kleine Herausforderung. ;) Dafür gingen die Pandas schnell.
Then I colored in all the images. The tree was a bit of a challenge. ;) But the pandas were easy to do.
Ganz unten auf der Karte habe ich dann mit der Grassy Edges Stencil und Distress Oxide Rustic Wilderness und Mowed Lawn Gras aufgewischt. Darüber habe ich dann gelb-goldene Metallic Watercolor gespritzt.
Und dann fehlten nur noch die Texte. Das hi haben ich ganz oben direkt auf die Karte gestempelt. Es ist aus dem Stempelset Flowers in Bloom.
Für die anderen Texte habe ich das Stempelset Well, Hello sowie das and aus dem Forever and Owlways Set benutzt - das hatte ich auf dem Tisch liegen, weil ich eventuell einen der Äste für den mittleren Teil des Baumes verwende wollte, habe mich dann aber doch für die einfachere Variante mit den Linien entschieden. Die Texte sind mit weißem Embossingpulver auf schwarzen Cardstock embosst und aufgeklebt. Das "from" musste ich ein zweites Mal mit aufkleben, da ich es nicht unter das hi quetschen wollte, der Text aber sonst im geschlossenen Zustand der Karte keinen Sinn gemacht hätte.
To the bottom of the card I added some grass using the Grassy Edges stencil and Distress Oxide Rustic Wilderness and Mowed Lawn. Then I spritzed some golden-yellow metallic watercolor over the green ink.
And then all that was missing was the text. I stamped the hi to the top of the card directly onto the cardstock. For the other words I used a stamp from the Well, Hello stamp set and the and from one stamp from the Forever and Owlways set. I had that on my table because I thought about stamping the middle part of the tree with one of the branches from that set but then decided to go the easier way with drawing two lines. The words are white heat embossed onto black cardstock and then glued onto the card. I had to add a second "from" since I didn't want to put it so close under the hi but without it the text wouldn't have made sense when the card is closed.
