St. Martin!

Hallo Ihr Lieben!

Hello everyone!
It's St. Martin's Day today here in Germany. The smaller kids meet with their classes, then walk through the streets singing songs and carrying lanterns they crafted in school. Well, my kids are all way too old to do that, but I always loved it, not only as a kid. I didn't want to share a lantern today over at the Stampcorner Blog, but somehow I wanted to honor that day. And so I made this card.

I have to admit, this card doesn't have to do anything with St. Martin. And it also looks pretty simple. But most times it's all about the hidden details...
I picked a piece of a grey patterned paper with a wooden print from the Woodgrain Whimsy paper pad by MFT and glued it onto some white cardstock, that I used as my card base.

Onto the upper part of the card I glued a window that's already a bit decorated for christmas. I've die cut it from white cardstock with the Window Frame Die by LawnFawn and added some shading with my Copics.
The garland is die cut with the Christmas Garland die set. I used two different tones of greens to cut all the pieces, then shaded those with my Copics as well and glued it onto the window frame.
The bow in the garland is from the same die set. I also shaded it a bit with my Copics and then covered it with Twinkle Stickles. Well, I didn't think of how long the glue takes to dry and dabbed into the wet glue. That's why the bow looks a bit strange.... I also decorated the garland with some silver pearls.
Behind the window I've glued some dark blue cardstock. Well, it actually isn't cardstock but I'll tell you more about that later.
On the window sill the cat from the Christmas Dreams stamp set by LawnFawn is taking a nap, the plant is from the Virtual Friends Add-On stamp set.

The card can be popped up like an Easel Card. I only made the stand about 5 cm/2" deep. To close the card it can simply be folded inside.

Onto the stand I've glued a piece of grey cardstock, on top I glued a piece of white cardstock. I had stamped the text "cozy time" onto it and then drew a thin frame with a silver glitter gel pen. Since the text has to hold the popped up part of the card I used some thin foam tape to glue it down. It is thick enough to hold the cover standing up but also doesn't create any bulk when the card is closed.

And here's my tribute to St. Martin: you can put a small electric light into the gap in the popped up card that lights up the window. So it kind of IS a lantern.

The dark blue "cardstock" behind the window is actually dark blue vellum. Before glueing the window down I've cut a rectangle from the patterned paper and the card base. I glued the vellum directly behind the window. Now the light can shine through it.
Behind the window I also added a skyline, die cut from black cardstock with one of the dies from the Slimline Cityscapes die set by WhimsyStamps. I glued it directly behind the window again. The vellum is so dark that the black die cut is nearly invisible when the card isn't lit up.
Behind the skyline there's another layer of white vellum. I used some stenciling paste to add some small stars, that are only visible when the card is lit up. I glued the white vellum to the inside of the card, since the white stars were more likely visible, even without the light turned on.
