The LawnFawnatics Challenge #113 has startet - and the theme is Holiday Critters. So they are asking for cards with all kinds of critters in a christmas mood.
Für mich gehören Weihnachtsmärkte - oder Christkindlsmärkte, wie sie hier in Bayern heißen - einfach zur Weihnachtszeit. Leider werden aus Pandemiegründen bereits viele wieder abgesagt. Wie gut, dass das bei den Pinguinen nicht der Fall ist. Und so nehme ich Euch heute mit dieser Tri-Fold Card mit auf den Pinguin-Weihnachtsmarkt.
For me here in Germany/Bavaria, christmas markets are a must during christmas season. Sadly many of them are again getting canceled due to the pandemic. What a great thing for the penguins that it isn't the case where they live. And so I'm taking you to a penguin christmas market with this Tri-Fold Card I've made for the challenge.
Wie gesagt, handelt es sich hier um eine Tri-Fold Card. Hinter die beiden oberen Lagen habe ich jeweils einen Rahmen auf die Rückseite geklebt, den ich mit 3D Tape befestigt habe. So bekommt die Szene Tiefe und gleichzeitig liegen alle Lagen bei geschlossener Karte gerade aufeinander und die Seiten, die nicht direkt am Falz liegen, können nicht "einsinken".
Bei geschlossener Karte sieht man den Eingang zum Weihnachtsmarkt und dainter kann man schon einen Blick darauf erhaschen.
As I already mentioned, this is a Tri-Fold Card. I attached a thin frame behind the two top layers and glued those down with foam tape. This does not only add some depth to the szene but also prevents the sides of the side flaps, that are not directly next to the fold, lay flat and not collapse.
When the card is closed you can see the entry to the christmas market and behind it also get a glimpse at the market itself.

Und auch der Markt kann zur Seite geklappt werden - und dann ist nur noch der geschmückte Tannenbaum zu sehen. Hier habe ich dann auch meinen Text versteckt, und zwar so, dass er bei geschlossener Karte vom Weihnachtsmarkt verdeckt wird.
Also the market can be folded open to the left - and all that's left on
the last panel of the card is the decorated tree. This is also where I
added my sentiment, making sure it's hidden by the christmas market
scene when the card is closed.
Ich rolle hier das Pferd mal von hinten auf.
Auf allen drei Kartenteilen habe ich den Himmel mit Distress Oxide Weathered Wood, Stormy Sky und Chipped Sapphire gewischt. Dann habe ich ein paar Wassertropfen darauf verteilt.
Der Tannenbaum ist aus dem Stempelset Christmas Dreams und, so wie alle Motive auf der Karte, mit Copics coloriert.
Für den Text habe ich nur das Wort Christmas mit der Giant Merry Christmas Stanze aus goldenem Glittercardstock ausgestanzt und den Text dann mit einem happy und einem season aus dem Stempelset Reveal Wheel Holiday Sentiments ergänzt. Das habe ich mit dem Lobster-Stempelkissen von LawnFawn gestempelt - das habe ich mir erst gekauft und endlich einen tollen Weihnachts-Rotton gefunden!
Well, I start with this last panel.
On all three parts of this card I've created a night sky with Distress Oxide Weathered Wood, Stormy Sky and Chipped Sapphire. Then I spritzed some water over it.
The tree is from the Christmas Dreams stamp set and colored with Copics - as are all images on this card.
For the text I've die cut only the word christmas with the Giant Merry Christmas die from golden glitter cardstock and finished the text with a stamped happy and a season from the Reveal Wheel Holiday Sentiments stamp set. I used the Lobster ink pad by LawnFawn to stamp those words - I just ordered that and am so happy to finally have found a wonderful christmas red!
Hier seht Ihr die Weihnachtsmarkt-Szene ohne die Lage mit dem Weihnachtsbaum dahinter. Achtung, hier habe ich sehr viele verschiedene Stempel kombiniert und einige sogar zweckentfremdet.
Die Laternen im Hintergrund sind, ebenso wie die Schleifen, aus dem Stempelset Winter in the Park. Für die Marktstände habe ich einen Stempel aus dem Set Coaster Critters verwendet und sie mit Lichterketten aus dem Set Penguin Party sowie einer Schneehaube auf dem Dach aus dem Winter Village Set dekoriert. Die Pinguine, die in den Ständen stehen, sind eigentlich gar keine. Ich hatte einfach keine, die von der Größe her passten, wollte aber nur Pinguine auf dieser Karte verwenden. Also habe ich die Rentiere aus dem Car Critters Christmas Add-On Stempelset verwendet, beim Colorieren den schwarzen Bereich im Gesicht etwas weiter nach innen gezogen - und dann die Ohren und das Geweih einfach weggeschnitten. Und schon sind es Pinguine!
Etwas Ähnliches habe ich auch mit den singenden Pinguinen gemacht. Es gibt solche eigentlich im Set Here we Go A-Waddling - aber die waren einfach zu groß. Na, erkennt Ihr die singenden Erbsen aus dem Set Peas on Earth? Da das meiste der Motive von den Büchern verdeckt wird, habe ich auch hier einfach das Gesicht pinguin-passend coloriert. Die Arme und Füße der Erbsen sind nur Striche - also lassen auch sie sich ganz einfach anpassen. Mein Mann meinte zwar, meine "Erbsen-Pinguine" sähen eher so aus wie Igel, aber das finde ich gar nicht!
Die einzelnen Markbuden habe ich mit "trees", "toys" und "food" per Hand beschriftet. Neben dem Stand mit den Weihnachtsbäumen stehen zwei wunderschöne Exemplare aus dem Set Winter Village zum Verkauf. Der Spielzeugstand ist mit einem Teddy und einem Zug aus dem Set Holiday Helpers ausgestattet. Und neben der Fressbude sind Mutter und Sohn Pinguin gerade dabei, sich zu stärken. Die beiden Pinguine sind aus dem Set Penguin Party. Mutter Pinguin genießt eine heiße Schokolade mit Marshmallows aus dem Set Holiday Helpers, der kleine Pinguin konnte sich wohl nicht entscheiden und hat gleich einen Lebkuchenmann aus dem Set A Creature was Stirring sowie eine Zuckerwatte aus dem Set Coaster Critters bekommen. Und seine Mütze ist aus dem Set Holiday Party Animal.
Ich habe die Szene zusammengesetzt und dabei im unteren Bereich der Karte ein Stück Cardstock beim Wischen weiß gelassen. Darauf habe ich einige Schatten in den Schnee gemalt. Dann habe ich alle Bereiche hinter der Marktszene ausgeschnitten und nur einen schmalen Rahmen für die bessere Stabilität stehenlassen.
Here you see the christmas market szene without the layer with the tree behind it. I combined a lot of different stamp sets here and also altered a few images.
The street lamps with their bows in the background are from the Winter in the Park stamp set. For the booths I used a stamp from the Coaster Critters set and decorated them with the christmas lights from the Penguin Party set and a layer of snow on the roof from the Winter Village set. The penguins that are the sellers in those booths actually aren't penguins. I simply didn't find any that were small enough to fit into the booths but I really wanted to use penguins only on this card. So I stamped the reindeer from the Car Critters Christmas Add-On set, added the black in the lower area of their faces and then simply cut off the ears and antlers. And voilà - they turned into penguins!
I did something similar with the singing penguins. There are some caroling penguins in the Here we go A-Waddling stamp set, but those were simply too large for this scene. So, did you recognize the singing peas from the Peas on Earth stamp set? Since most of the images is hidden behind the books I again simply changed the faces and gave them a more penguin-like look. And since the peas only have single lines as arms and feet those were easily changed as well. My husband sais, these "penguins" look more like hedgehogs, but I totally disagree here!
I worte "trees", "toys" and "food" onto the booths. Next to the booth selling christmas trees there are displayed two wonderful examples from the Winter Village stamp set. The toys booth has a bear and a train from the Holiday Helpers set to offer. And next to the booth selling food Mrs. Penguin and his son are taking a break from shopping. Mrs. Penguin is enjoying a hot chocolat with marshmallows from the Holiday Helpers Set, the little penguin seems to have had problems deciding and so he got a gingerbread man from the A Creature Was Stirring set and some cotton candy from the Coaster Critters Set. Both penguin images are from the Penguin Party stamp set, the hat from the little one is from the Party Animal set.
I put the scene together and left the lower area of this card panel white while inking the background. Then I added some shadows in the snow and cut out the area behind the scene, only leaving a small frame for more stability.
Und das ist die oberste Lage, die man bei geschlossener Karte sieht - ebenfalls ohne die Szene dainter fotografiert.
Hier habe ich den Streifen für den verschneiten Boden schmäler gelassen.
Der Eingang zum Weihnachtsmarkt besteht aus zwei Birkenstämmen aus dem Set Joy to the Woods, auf dem sich ein breites Holzbrett befindet. Dafür habe ich einen Streifen Cardstock mit dem Woodgrain Backdrop bestempelt und coloriert. Anschließend habe ich ihn quer über die beiden Birkenstämme geklebt und die Worte Christmas Market per Hand mit einem schwarzen Stift aufgemalt.
Auf dem Schild befindet sich wieder eine dicke Lage Schnee - diesmal aus dem Stempelset Winter in the Park.
Dekoriert habe ich das Schild mit zwei Ilex-Blättern aus den Sets Joy to the Woods und A Creature was Stirring. Außerdem hängt von der Mitte des Schilds ein Mistelzweig aus dem Set Cheery Christmas. So ein Mistelzweig darf in der Weihnachtszeit nicht fehlen!
Links des Eingangs hat ein weiterer kleiner Pinguin einen Schnee-Pinguin gebaut. Der ist aus dem Set Snow Cool, seine lange Zipfelmütze aus dem Set Toboggan Together.
Und während Mutter und Sohn Pinguin sich noch auf dem Markt stärken, bringt Vater Pinguin schon mal den gerade gekauften Weihnachtsbaum auf dem Schlitten nach Hause. Auch diese drei Motive sind aus dem Set Toboggan Together.
Auch hier habe ich die Szene wieder auf den Hintergrund aufgeklebt und dann den Bereich im Inneren des Eingangs ausgeschnitten, so dass man durch das Tor einen Teil des Weihnachtsmarkts sehen kann.
Ganz zum Schluss habe ich die drei Teile der Karte zusammengeklebt und auf allen Szenen weiße Acrylfarbe verspritzt. Ich muss mich immer überwinden, eine fertige Szene zu überspritzen, aber ich wollte unbedingt, dass es so aussieht, als würde es schneien. Und der Schnee fällt ja nicht nur im Hintergrund. Ich habe aber versucht, keine dicken Tropfen direkt auf die Motive zu spritzen, so dass sie trotzdem noch gut erkennbar sind.

Here I left the white area for the ground smaller.
The entry to the christmas market is made from two birch trees from the Joy to the Woods set, on top of those I placed a wood plank. I stamped the Woodgrain Backdrop onto a strip of cardstock, then colored it. Then I glued it across the two birch trees and added the words christmas market by hand using a black pen.
Again I added a thick layer on top of the wooden sign, this time from the Winter in the Park set.
I decorated the sign with two holly leaves from the sets Joy to the Woods and A Creature was Stirring. I also hung up a mistletoe from the middle of the sign. There just has to be one somewhere during christmas time! The mistletoe image is from the Cheery Christmas set.
To the left of the entry another little penguin just built a snow penguin. It's from the Snow Cool set, his long hat is from the Toboggan Together set.
And while mom and son penguin are still enjoying their food on the market, father penguin is already bringing home the christmas tree he just bought, using a sleigh so he doesn't have to carry the tree. Also those images are from the Toboggan Together set.
Again I glued all images for this scene onto the background, then cut out the cardstock inside the sign so you get a look at a part of the christmas market through it.
To finish this card I glued all three parts together and spritzed some white acrylic paint over each of the scenes. I always have to forcde myself to spritz color over a finished scene but I really wanted it to look like it's snowing. Well, and the snow would not only fall in the background. But I really tried, to not add any thick drops onto an image so they are all still recognizable.
