Als ich das Thema der Technique Throwback Thursday Challenge für Mai gesehen habe, habe ich mich innerlich ein wenig gewunden. Es geht um One Layer Cards. Die bekommen zwar durch Maskieren optisch eine tolle Tiefe, aber sie sind an sich eigentlich so gar nicht meines, ich liebe meine Lagen und Stanzteile. Okay, Challenge accepted - auch, weil ich sonst so absolut gar keine Idee hatte, was ich gerade machen wollte. Und hier ist nun das Ergebnis.

When I saw the theme of the Technique Throwback Thursday challenge for may I cringed a bit. It's about One Layer Cards. They get an amazing depth by doing some masking but still, they are so not what I enjoy to do, I just love my layers and die cuts. Okay, challenge accepted - also because I really had no other idea what I wanted to make. And this is the result.
Als es darum ging, welches Design ich auf meine Karte packen wollte, begann draußen gerade ein dickes Gewitter - also wurde es eine Regenszene hinter einem Fenster, auf dem eine Katze gemütlich auf einem Buch liegt.
Da ich die Katze und den Blumentopf vor dem Fenster haben wollte, habe ich also zuerst die Masken für das Fenster gestanzt und dafür die Fenster-Stanze von Create a Smile benutzt. Aus dem selben Set ist auch die Pflanze im Topf, die habe ich ebenfalls gleich mit aus Masking Tape gestanzt.
Zuerst habe ich nur den äußeren Teil des Cardstocks mit Tape abgedeckt so dass ich wusste, wo später die untere Kante meines Fensters sein würde. An diese Kante habe ich dann die Katze aus dem Set Katzen Tatzen gestempelt und anschließend maskiert. Daneben habe ich die beiden Teile für den Blumentopf samt Pflanze geklebt. Dann habe ich die Fensterrahmen-Maske aufgeklebt und den Ast aus dem Set Hey Honey und darauf die mürrisch drein schauende Krähe aus dem Set Krähm Dela Krähm gestempelt und dann auch diese beiden Teile maskiert.
When I thought about what design I could use this techique for a thunderstorm started outside - and so I made a rainy scene behind a window with a cat on a book on the window sill.
Since I wanted the cat and the plant in front of the window inside the room I first die cut the masks for the window using the Fenster die by Create a Smile. The plant is from the same set and I die cut the two pieces from masking tape as well.
First I only put the outer mask onto my card front to know, where the bottom edge of my window will be. Right onto the edge I stamped the cat from the Katzen Tatzen stamp set and then masked her off. I glued the two masks for the plant next to the cat and glued down the window mask. Then I stamped the branch from the Hey Honey set and the scrumpy crow from the Krähm dela Krähm set into the upper half of the window and covered those with masking tape, too.
Die Bereiche im Fenster habe ich dann erst mit Distress Ink Weathered Wood und Stormy Sky gewischt und dabei bewusst einen etwas härteren Pinsel zum Auftragen verwendet, so dass er etwas streifig wird. Wichtig ist dabei, dass die Streifen alle parallel zueinander laufen. Außerdem muss man sich vorher überlegen, woher der Regen kommen soll und die Farbe dementsprechend aufwischen. Anschließend habe ich mit einem B91 Copic einige weitere Streifen aufgemalt und mit einem feinen Pinsel mit Wasser etwas von der Distressfarbe im Hintergrund wieder aufgehellt.
Dann habe ich die Masken von meinen Motiven entfernt und sie mit Copics coloriert, bei der Pflanze, die ich ja mit einer Stanze und nicht mit einem Stempel gemacht habe, musste ich NoLine Coloring anwenden. Ein Kartenrohling ist normalerweise nicht der Cardstock, auf dem ich coloriere, aber es hat ganz gut geklappt. Ich habe nur nicht dran gedacht, dass die Farbe ein wenig durchbluten wird und so auch auf der Rückseite - also der linken inneren Seite der Karte - sichtbar ist. Da ich aber einen 300g Rohling verwendet habe, hielt sich das in Grenzen.
Anschließend habe ich mit einem dünnen weißen Gelstift Regentropfen aufgemalt und dabei auch einige über die Motive gelegt, die sich hinter der Fensterscheibe befinden. Kein Wunder, dass die arme Krähe so mürrisch dreinblickt....
Anschließend habe ich äußere Maske abgenommen und das Fenster samt Rahmen maskiert. Die Wand rund um das Fenster habe ich dann mit einer Mauerstencil gewischt - erst ein wenig fleckig mit Distress Ink Pumice Stone, dann an einigen Stellen zusätzlich ganz zart mit Scorched Timber.
Dann konnte ich endlich alle Masken entfernen und habe den Fensterrahmen noch ein klein wenig schattiert, das sorgt für noch mehr Tiefe.
I first inked the areas inside the window with Distress Ink Weathered Wood and Stormy Sky, using a quite hard brush to aply the ink so the sky looks a bit streaky. It's important, to do all streaks in the same direction and decide, from which area the rain should come from, before applying the ink. Then I used a B91 Copic to add a few more streaks and a fine brush with water to pick up/lighten some of the Distress Ink in the background.
I removed the masks from my images and colored them with Copics. I had to do NoLine Coloring on the plant because it was made with a die and not a stamp. A card base is not the usual cardstock I color on but it worked quite well. I only didn't think of the fact, that the ink will bleed through and will be visible on the inside/back of the front later. Luckily I used 300g cardstock, which is very heavy, and so the color there is very light.
Then I used a thin gel pen to add some raindrops over everything that's outside the window, also the images there. No wonder that this poor crow is looking so scrumpy...
I removed the outer mask and masked the window and frame again. Onto the wall around the window I added a brick pattern using a stencil. I started with Distress Ink Pumice Stone, doing the wall a bit splotchy on purpose, then very lightly added some Scorched Timber in a few areas.
Then I was finally able to remove all the masks and added just a bit of shading to the window frame to give the scene even more depth.
Unter dem Fenster habe ich auf die Mauer mit schwarzer Tinte meinen Text gestempelt. Der ist aus dem Stempelset Lieblingskeks und ich fand ihn super passend. Die Krähe mag ihn wohl eher als reine Ironie auffassen...
Under the window I stamped my text with black ink onto the wall. It means "let's get cozy" - I think, it goes great with the scene. I guess the crow might think I'm being ironic though....
Und hier zum Schluss noch der Beweis, dass es sich hier wirklich um eine reine One Layer Card handelt! ;)
